Caroline's Christmas

The holidays have kept us busy. I wish I could have posted one or two blogs in between this one, but I guess I'm learning about the busy life of being a parent. Caroline is now ten weeks old and learning so much. She is just now getting the hang to holding on to rattles when you put them in hers hands and she is doing so well with hold her head up. Before I know it she won't need my help any more. On the 19th of December Caroline and I rode with my parents up to Rome, GA to have our Christmas get together with my mom's side of the family. My Aunt Kay and Uncle Nick went to Italy this summer the same time Tim and I when to England. They got in touch with our Italian relatives to have dinner and share heritage stories with them. This year Aunt Kay hosted Christmas at her house and recreated the five course meal that was cooked for them. I was very delicous.
Right after I got home the Sunday of that weekend, we started getting ready for Tim's family. His mom, dad, brother, and grandmother came down the Monday before Christmas and stayed until early Saturday morning. We had a good time with them. And of course with grandparents visiting, Caroline got more presents than anyone.
This Christmas I did some major hinting for the Open Hearts necklace from Kay Jewlers. Tim did good in getting the not so subtle hints, however he tried to make the gift giving more fun than just giving me what I wanted. Click HERE to see the video clip from Christmas day. Happy New Years to all!!!

Four Generations on my Mom's side. The night before was a long night as Princess Caroline does not sleep well away from home...hence, the lovely hair style.

Six Weeks

This is my last week at home with Caroline before returning to work. I'm savoring every moment, because I know every day that I'm at work I'll wish I had this time with her again. She has gotten so big over these past six weeks. She is doing a wonderful job with her eye contact and smiling.
please keep me in your prayers for going back to work. I have to get trained to instruct, which seems like a hard enough task in itself since I haven't controlled in over a year, and I'm in charge of the squadron's budget, which is a time consuming job. I feel a bit inadequate to my work responsibilities but I know God is bigger and can help me through this.I just want to be proficient and still be able to go home at closing time so I can spend every possible moment with Caroline and Tim. So please remember to pray for me.
Last Friday we went to our squadron Christmas party. We took Caroline with us and dressed her up. Her father said she was "the bell of the ball." Everyone had something to say about how beautiful she was. The base commander's wife held her for the longest time as he looked on nervously and told his wife not to get any ideas. Anyways we had a wonderful time in spite of Tim not winning the iphone give away.
Tim painted the up stairs guest room this weekend. This is what I found before he started the rolling.

Caroline's First Thanksgiving

Caroline turned 5 weeks old on Thanksgiving day. We took her to Bainbridge, Georgia to see my Dad's side of the family. Every year my dad's relatives drive all across the state to go to this country church to eat and leave. At the most people are there for about three hours and then they get in their cars and drive home. Talk about only going for the food. Every year we go and comment on how we wished we could have stayed longer to visit with everyone. When my brother, Jason, used to go he would use his journalism skills to interview relatives we never met. Then he and my dad would talk about who they met and what they learned about everyone. It was like they divided and conquered the task of socializing with others.
Caroline got to see her Great-Granny Ragan for the first time along with her other great-great aunts and uncles. After we spent our two hours there, we drove to Columbus, Georgia to say the night with Chris and Liz and her side of the family. We had such a good time there. It was like high school times seeing her family again. Liz, her mom and I braved the crowds on Black Friday while leaving the kids at home with the men. I normally don't shop the day after Thanksgiving but I did for Caroline sine there is no BabiesRUs in Panama City. After the shopping trip we drove back home just in time for Tim to get started on his weekend long project of painting the parlor. With a little encouragement he does such a good job on his Honey-Do-List. And believe me he has a long list with this house.
Tim and I have so much to be grateful for this year. I had a wonderful pregnancy, easy delivery, and a beautiful, healthy child that I couldn't love more. Not to mention we moved back to Florida to get new job and be closer to family. We found a house, good church and home group, and we find ourselves surrounded by friendly neighbors. What more could we ask for.

One Month

Caroline turned one month old last Sunday!!! She wanted me to tell everyone Happy Thanksgiving for her.

I looked out the window and caught Tucker sleeping with his head on top of Alex. How precious! They are adjusting well to being outside dogs.

If you ever wanted to know what Caroline looks like when she wakes up in the morning...this is how she looked this morning.

I took this photo last week and sent it to my Uncle Van and Aunt Debra since they bought the musical animal toy that hangs on her crib. Look at all the room she has in her bed. She is still so small. I think she weight between 8.5 and 9 lbs...still smaller than some babies are when they are born.

This is my first attempt at an artistic photo. She'll probably be mad at me for taking this photo in the future.

Hiccups!!!!!

Caroline is starting to coo.

Third Week

Our neighbor across the street made this crochet sleeping bag/pouch. It is much easier than having to deal with the burrito wrap coming undone during her naps.

Who can resist taking a picture of a sleeping baby?

Caroline went to her first squadron function last Friday: our Thanksgiving feast. This is one of the few times Tim has gotten to feed her since I'm just now getting the hang of pumping. What a proud Father!

Uncle Aaron stopped by on his way through last Thursday night and most of Friday. He's a natural at holding newborns. They made a good pair: Uncle Aaron talked and Caroline just sat quietly listening.

My favorite outfit: "Will the Paparazzi ever leave me alone?"

Here is a video clip Tim took of her.

2 Weeks Old!

Caroline turned two weeks old last Thursday. At her doctor's visit they said she is now 7lbs 5oz. Tim and I can tell she is putting on a little fat.
Aren't I such a doll baby?

Last Sunday was our first Sunday at Church as a family. That is the first dress she wore. That is NOT our Christmas tree we are standing in front of; it's our THANKSGIVING TREE!

Daddy taught her a lesson on being a good citizen and voting at the poles. She got a sticker for being good.

Caroline's first Uncle came to visit, Uncle Robb. He taught us a new family activity of Geocaching. You can read about at www.geocaching.com

Happy Halloween!!!

Caroline is now a week and one day old. I thought I would post more pictures and a few video clips. Mom just left a few hours ago so Tim and I are officially unsupervised parents. I think we will be fine. Mom helped out with a lot of work around the house so now we can rest for a while and enjoy her full time.

Caroline Lydia Billings' Birth Story

On Wednesday evening Tim came home around 4:45 pm from work. We still had some last minute grocery shopping that we had to do before going to the hospital. With all the shopping, eating supper and taking my last shower, we were thirty minutes late to the hospital. It didn't make a difference because the hospital staff just delivered four babies within the past hour. They were cleaning our room and it was 9:30 pm before we were allowed in our room. My first nurse did not have good bedside manners to say the least. She first numbed my left wrist so she could insert an IV for hydration and where she could draw blood. Well, she completely missed my vein. As she was inserting the needle, I very quickly expressed how it hurt and I didn't think she was doing it correctly. She continued to inject the solution before she realized that she messed up. My wrist quickly swelled up and I still, five days later, have a 3x5 inch area on my wrist that is brusied. To top that off, every time she checked my cervix, I let out a scream. Believe it or not, that was the worst pain I felt the whole time. She gave me some pills every three hours to ripen my cervix. We watched an episode of The Office on Tim's laptop before going to sleep. It was about Jan's baby shower, very appropriate. I tried to sleep but with all the liquids they pumped in me, I had to go to the bath room every thirty minutes. So I had to unhook the monitor wires for Caroline's heart beat and my contractions, take off the blood pressure band and wheel the IV cart in the bathroom with me. It was a big ordeal every time. After going to the bathroom the first time, I took the blood pressure band off and left it on the floor. I knew I wasn't going to get rest if my blood pressure was getting checked every thirteen minutes. The alarms on the machine started going off the next time the band filled up with air. Tim turned the alarms off, and they went off again during the next thirteen minutes. Then he played around with it and turned it off for good. The nurse immediately came in the room and saw what we did, but did not say anything since we pretended like we were asleep. That's what you get when you put two college graduates and Air Battle Managers in a room and they make a living by pushing buttons. By 6 am she checked my cervix again and started the Pitocin (this helps start your contractions). They came fast. I first thought I had lower back pains from the uncomfortable bed, but when that same pain spread to my abdomen and got stronger, I then realized they were contractions. This is gross to say, but I then started to feel the pain of constipation like I had never felt before. Sitting started to hurt, so I was standing and then squatting, whatever would help at moment. I gritted my teeth and grunted as Tim massaged my back. The doctor stopped to show Tim pressure point areas to massage to relieve the back pain; at this time, they didn't help at all. I then asked for the Epidural shot. I got it when I was only two centimeters dialated, but I think the Pitocin made everything come faster and harder because it hurt. All I knew was I did not have to subject myself to this pain. The combination of the labor pains and the shot going in my back were pretty bad, but it was over in no time and within a matter of a few minutes I was relaxed. I still felt pressure from the contractions but not the sharp pains. The numbness started in my legs and traveled up to my abdomen. I had to ask Tim if my foot was on the bed and if he could move it for me. My mom came to the room about 9:00am and from that point we were just chilling as I felt the pressure much like cramps, no big deal. We thought I would take awhile and Tim and I had the idea for Tim to go home and take a shower and on his way back pick up Juno, Baby Mama, and Knocked Up from Blockbuster. He left and I started talking on the phone to my siblings. While I was on the phone the nurse said she was going to check me, then she looked at me and told me I was 9 cm dialated. Only 25 minutes had passed since she last told me I was still 2 cm. I told my brother, "I'm about to have the baby and Tim is not here." I look across the room and realized he had left his phone in the room. I had no way of calling him at the house; I was so scared he would miss the birth. My brother told me to call our realtor. I did and there was no answer. Then the only other person I could call was our church because our Bible study leader is employed there and her husband knows where our house is. My brother looked up the number on the internet for me. Mind you, he is doing this from Kansas while at work. I was successful in getting her husband to go by the house immediately. Then my brother looked up the number to Blockbuster and called the manager and described Tim to him. The other Tim from our church called me to tell me no one was at the house so I knew he was on the way. Luckily, the nurse said we could hold off pushing just a little bit longer. As Tim was getting out of his car at Blockbuster the manager asked his name and said, "Get back in the car. You are about to have your baby!" Tim rushed in the room just in time, in Air Force style, to hurry up and wait. The nurse texted Dr. Wolf about my progress. She explained to Tim and my mom that they were going to hold up both of my legs as I pushed. She told me to push three sets of ten seconds as she counted for me. My first set I think I just squeezed my muscles in my head because my face got red and nothing happened. Around 11:00 am, Dr. Wolf came to watch what was happening. After watching one set, he said he was going to put on his scrubs. He then took over the pushing sessions and told me I had to push in the right location. Going to the bathroom is the best way I could describe that push. I didn't make a sound when I pushed. The hardest part was just concentrating on the right muscles. I think I pushed about 10 sets (some with four or five pushes) before she came out. It only took about 13 minutes of pushing. I had a mirror to see it all. It was so cool when I got to see the hair a few pushes before the head came out. When her head came out, it was such a relief. At 11:25 am on Thursday, October 23, 2008, Caroline Lydia Billings made her entry into the world weighing 6 lbs 7 oz. and measuring 19 inches long. She let her first little girly squeal and I fell in love. (Love at first sight unarguably does exist.) I can say of all my 28 years, it was the best day of my life, hands down. I never really understood the whole mother-child relationship until the moment I held her in her arms. I just want to stare at her all day long and hold her. Tim and I just look at her in awe of how beautiful she is and just continue to say it out loud. I think every parent feels that way about THEIR baby, no matter what. I understand why all my friends mailed me pictures of every season of their child and why they ask as soon as you say "I do" when I am planning on have a child. It is indescribable, the emotions that Caroline arouses within me. I look at her and I just want to cry because I see how precious and sweet life is, and I am so grateful that God gave her to us. I've known in my heart since I was five years old that all I wanted out of life was to be a mom. And now the adventure has begun. Many of you know my beagle Tucker and how much I love him. Within a day of having Caroline, I realized that I was going to have to give him away because of his past record of aggression and biting me. Caroline hadn't been in my life that long before Tim and I began putting her needs first. I used the think it was annoying how you hang out with a friend and everything is about their children and now I understand why they do that. I always heard that having a baby changes everything. I thought that meant the amount of time you sleep or your social life becomes non-existant. No, it means the way you see and experience life is from a whole new perspective.

I'm still recovering and doing well. We are getting the feeding routine down and Tim is getting a full night's sleep. I am getting sleep in the day and night, plenty to make me feel rested. My mom is here for the rest of the week to help out around the house (as we just moved at the beginning of the month) and to cook for us. She is amazing. I don't think I could have made it through this first hurdle without her. Thank you everyone for all your support, prayers and encouragement. The email responses mean a LOT!

July until Present

I guess I should probably write an entry and catch everyone up on what's been going on since the UK trip. We spent the month of July and August trying to sell our home and tie up all loose ends at work. It became very stressful for us as the buyers for our home came along very last minute and so did our orders to move to our next duty station. But we got it all taken care of in the nick of time. The last weekend we were there we had a baby shower hosted by one of my best friends, Samantha. She did a wonderful job of preparing everything. We were so glad we had a one last memorable time with all our friends from Oklahoma. The day we handed over the keys to our house, we headed to New Mexico to go to Todd's and Abear's wedding. Tim was a groomsman in the wedding and I tagged along as his date. We had a good time, but it seemed to make the entire move to Florida forever long, especially with the dogs the entire trip. After the wedding, we went back to Oklahoma City to spend the night on the base and pick up my car. We headed straight to the Red Rock Canyon Grill to eat dinner with five other couples before leaving for good. We had such a wonderful time, and it is such a shame that it takes someone leaving before ALL of us could get together like this. OKC is so spread out and everyone is so busy it makes it difficult to get your friends together very often.
The next day we headed to Florida and managed to avoid the hurricane, but we did get rain on the second day of driving. We made it to Tyndall on the 3rd of September. From then we rented a cheap apartment that was the most disgusting place I have ever lived. So for about a month we moved from hotel to hotel and then stayed on an air mattress most of the time. That was not a comfortable situation for a pregnant woman. I would have to say it ranked pretty high on one of the most miserable times in my life. We ended up finding a beautiful home and closed on it on September 30th. However, we had to wait until October 6th before TMO could bring our stuff to the house. So that added on more mattress time. But it's all good now; we are settled in with plans to make our touches on the house bit by bit. We are happy with the kitchen and we finished painting and setting up our bedroom. My mom came down one weekend and painted the baby's room and Tim painted the dinning room. Our lives are completely functional now and most everything is in its place.
Now we are counting down the day, four to be exact, until I have the baby. We are so excited. Her due date is the 20th but I will be induced on the night of the 22nd if she has not come by then. I can't wait to have her in my arms and get back to my normal clothes.
Last night Todd and Abear (who moved to Hurlburt AFB not too long before us) came to visit us. They spent the night and we drove about an hour north of here to go to a farm and pick pumpkins. We did the hay ride thing as well. We had a great time, however it wasn't really the best place to pick a pumpkin as they did not grow many and they were already cut off the vines for insurance purposes. I hope you enjoy the pictures. I'll add pictures of the rooms in the house as we finish them.
